My name is Tryggvi Gunnarsson and I am a celebrant for Humanists Iceland.
It all started a few years ago when my sister asked if I could officiate her wedding. I was honored, was admitted to the education program at Humanists Iceland and managed to finish just in time for her big day.
It might sound like a cliché, but I absolutely fell in love with officiating from day one. Since then I have wed over 500 people, each and every ceremony being something special. To be able to get to know people from all over the world, be a part of a very important moment in their lives and make it as unique and beautiful as possible is a privilege.
My ceremonies
I like to offer ceremonies that are a balanced mix of good humor and solemn heartfelt moments. People a different, and I guide couples through the process and together we create a framework that is tailormade to the couple. Sometimes people want me to make all the decisions, sometimes they have clear ideas of what to do and how to do it. That is one of the things I love about officiating, every day brings something new.
My background
I am a born and bred Icelander, my family has lived in Reykjavík for twelve generations, but back then the capital was just three farmhouses and one dirt path.
I am a biologist, anthropologist, playwriter and director. I live with my wife and two children in Reykjavík, but spend every available moment in the great outdoors enjoying nature.
I am a firm believer in equality and human rights for every human being. Every life is precious, every human being is unique and it is our civil duty to make sure we live in a peaceful and just society.
It is all very idealistic but most days I am just trying my best to have fun and be a good human being.
If you want to know more about me please feel free to send me a line and I’ll answer all your questions the best I can.
